The real estate portfolio is comprised of multi-family apartments (U.S and Israel), office buildings (U.S., Europe and Israel), industrial holdings, and land holdings for development. The Real Estate Accounting Manager position will be a key member of the Real Estate Accounting team (of 3 people) and will report to the Senior Real Estate Controller and work with the Real Estate Accountant (who reports to the Sr. Real Estate Controller as well). The Real Estate Accounting Manager have a dotted line report to relationship with the Corporate Controller as well. This hands-on role will be responsible for providing management with accurate and timely financial data necessary for budgetary and financial decisions for their real estate investments and managing the accounting reporting requirements for the company’s real estate portfolio.

  • Manage the reporting process for real estate assets which includes all accounting and operating reports on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Key lead in the annual budget development process partnering with project managers and external partners to ensure timely submission and review.
  • Responsible for recording all activity related to capital transactions or any extraordinary events or transactions. Includes purchase and sale settlement statements, loan assumptions, etc.
  • Partners with tax partners to finalize yearend tax workpapers including trial balances, depreciation schedules, etc.
  • Reviews all monthly financials both internally and externally prepared for accuracy and provides necessary adjusting entries as needed. Approves all internally prepared financials journal entries, bank reconciliations, etc.
  • Reviews and provides second level approval for all capital call requests and large check requests.
  • Develops job costing module within accounting system and works with development team leads to track all construction/development spend against budget.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Accounting for timely preparation of financial reports due monthly, quarterly, etc.
  • Manage and distribute all variance and performance reports for real estate assets in a timely manner and on agreed upon deadlines
  • Work with outside CPA firm on review of company’s real estate transactions
  • Administer and document accounting and internal control policies and procedures associated with real estate assets.
  • Stay up to date with tax code and any changes in tax rules or policies that may affect the reporting and documentation of the real estate assets
  • Review cash flow forecasts and explanations of significant variances for the properties
  • Review acquisition and disposition agreements for clarity and completeness of reporting, allocation and funding requirements
  • Works with Sr. Real Estate Controller to establish and maintain an accounting calendar, streamline reporting processes, ensure proper use and knowledge of current systems, recommend new processes, procedures, systems, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting of Finance required; Master's degree is preferred
  • CPA preferred, not required
  • Minimum 5-7 years financial management experience; 3-5 years in a senior level related position with real estate or property management firm preferred.
  • Must have accounting experience with multi-family real estate
  • 2-3 years’ public accounting experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of current accounting principles
  • Understanding appropriate internal controls necessary to ensure safety of all real estate assets
  • MS Dynamics GP, Great Plains or QuickBooks experience helpful but not required
