Navigator Recruiting client is a well-established 25-employee CPA firm in Boulder and is seeking a Tax Processing Assistant. The firm has low turnover and a strong group of core employees who’ve been with the firm for a long time and people work well together as a team. This firm is also growing and there are opportunities to grow with the firm. This position has a dual role, as an Administrative Assistant/Tax Processor.  Candidate will assist in the processing of tax returns, monitor the status of returns, assist in the management of the tax deadline tracking system, and help with file scanning and management. Candidate will also provide administrative support to the Office Manager and the professional staff as needed. The chosen individual will work 40 hours per week most of the year and 50 hours per week (including Sat. mornings) during busy season (Feb. 1 – Arp. 15).
  • Preparation of mainly partnership, s corp and individual tax returns;
  • Data entry with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Assemble tax returns and extensions in proper order with appropriate attachments
  • Deliver completed tax returns securely to clients via portal, email or mail
  • Monitor tax control log and associated reports
  • E-filing of all tax returns (releasing returns, checking status of released returns, following up on rejected returns)
  • Sending in the supporting documentation for E-file forms
  • Scanning and filing signed copies of E-file forms to clients’ files
  • Sending out status updates on E-file forms to tax managers close to deadlines
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with clients via phone, email, fax, and occasionally in person
  • Assist in the file room and/or at the front desk outside of busy season and other times as workload permits
  • Coordinate and assist with special projects as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Most clients are Colorado-based businesses in the <$50M revenue range, however, there’s a fair amount of multi-state tax work. Clients are in a variety of industries including real estate, construction, manufacturing, professional services (including many in the medical profession) and other industries.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ tax return processing experience or 2-5 years working in public accounting firm
  • 4-year degree preferred but not required
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment, be a team player and be proactive
  • Ability to adhere to strict security procedures at all times in handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple projects
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to navigate and resolve conflict, meet tight deadlines and handle stressful situations effectively
  • Ability to work long hours, including weekends and evenings, during tax season and during other deadline periods
  • Experience in Microsoft Office with intermediate skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience with Adobe and PDF’s
  • Experience in tax software, preferably Ultra Tax
